New Spider-Man 2 Trailer, Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay

Venom, Miles and Spidey looking cinematic in new story trailer, Star Wars Outlaws gets new gameplay at Comic-Con.

Comic-Con capped off this week in San Diego (SDCC), and along with it the biggest games from Hollywood busted out some new trailers and details.

But, as always, there’s plenty going on in the world of the biggest gaming news.

  • “Call of Duty 2023” is coming. It teased the upcoming reveal on Twitter, and confirmed a Q4 release in its latest earning report. “Activision’s teams are hard at work on major new installments in the franchise slated for the fourth quarter… Development of this year's full annual premium release on PC and console is proceeding well.” It’s also been leaked as Modern Warfare 3 by Sledgehammer Games, most recently with a logo leak appearing on energy drink cans.

  • Spider-Man 2 released a cinematic story trailer at SDCC. It releases October 20th, and — well, just watch the trailer. Venom. Harry Osborn. Kraven. It’s looking as good as a movie.

  • Star Wars Outlaws didn’t want to miss Comic-Con. The team from Ubisoft’s Massive studio hosted a panel and released new gameplay, concept art and more in a behind-the-scenes video feature. As reported by IGN, they may have even teased a cooking system, saying “And if you enjoy food and discovering alien concoctions, this is going to be an exciting experience for you.”

  • Diablo 4 had its first season release… and a rough week of fan backlash after Blizzard had to bring down the nerf-hammer on a bunch of points. They agreed it feels bad to take away power from players — but were firm they had to do it now, to get ahead of problems with build diversity, powers that were going unused, and other issues. “One build shouldn’t be the only way to play a class,” Blizzard noted. As fans find new powers this season, it seems some of the drama has faded.

  • In other Blizzard news — Overwatch 2 is coming to Steam. Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard said, “While Battle.net remains a priority for us now and into the future, we’ve heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection of our games, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10th. We’re happy to work with Valve to make that happen.” This suggests other Blizzard games might be headed to Steam as well in the future.

  • Quick Review Round-Up (Metacritic Scores)

    • Remnant II (July 25th) - 80 / 100

    • Pikmin 4 - 87 / 100

    • Exoprimal - 66 / 100

Stunning New Spider-Man 2 Story Trailer

I was blown away by the technicality of the animation, gameplay and graphics in Spider-Man and Miles Morales. Insomniac is generally one of the best in the business, so I can’t wait to see how the final game looks.

Too bad we’ll have to wait so long for a PC version.

Star Wars Outlaws: Behind-the-Scenes

To quote the game’s creative director, Julian Gerighty, “…the high-stakes scoundrel lifestyle and the open-world promise, allowed us to create a game within Star Wars that had never been done before. Not just exploring cities. But also getting onto your speeder and racing across stunning wilderness…then jump into your ship, the Trailblazer…and go on an incredible adventure.”

The title is slated for 2024.
